I often describe my automobile as a necessary evil. I “love to hate” my car because, while it conveniently allows me to get to places at my own leisure, it is expensive and negatively impacts the environment with every kilometre I drive. However, I have recently learned that there is a car company out there who considers nature.

Tesla Motors was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers in the Silicon Valley. With a very specific goal in mind – to prove that electric cars could be better than gasoline cars – they set out to create motor vehicles that would be a leader in sustainable transport. Presently, they appear to have been successful with their endeavours.

These cars do come at a price because demand seems to be outweighing their supply at the moment. The Model 3 is currently $35,000USD.

Despite these costs, the want for environmentally friendly rides seems to be important to consumers. The demand is driven by the sleek design and the high-tech interface that the motorist is able to interact with. In due time, it is expected that costs will decline because the company plan to expand production lines by building new factories.

The cars Tesla Motors produce come with many advantages including:

  • No petrol stops for morning commuters

  • Only one gear needed for all speeds

  • No pollution emissions

Even celebrities are joining the drive in support of environmentally friendly motor vehicles - Morgan Freeman, Ben Affleck and Cameron Diaz are just a few of the many A-listers to own the Model S from Tesla Motors.

Although the vehicles do not directly create carbon dioxide, unfortunately CO2 still remains a product of the electrical generation needed to charge its battery. However, even when such pollution effects are factored in, electric cars still emit less carbon dioxide than conventional cars. Just like any rechargeable battery, the time it lasts before needing another recharge could be improved… This remains a drawback that the motor company are seeking to improve.

Overall, Tesla is penetrating the market with electric cars, positively changing the future of transport. Every new owner will have the privilege to feel great about their decision to buy eco-friendly each time they drive it!
